Dr. Sofia A. Xergia is a distinguished Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy at the University of Patras,
currently extending her expertise as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Nicosia. She has a diverse
academic background with a BSc in Physiotherapy from ATEI of Thessaloniki, an MSc in Management of
Pain, and a PhD in Sports Physiotherapy, both from the University of Ioannina.
Her PhD thesis focused on "Functional Criteria of Physical Therapy after Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Reconstruction," a subject on which she has published extensively. Her research interests are deeply
rooted in sports biomechanics, specializing in the biomechanics of musculoskeletal and sports injuries
using advanced diagnostic tools like 3D motion analysis systems, EMG, dynamometry, and force
platforms.
Dr. Xergia's career also includes significant academic roles such as a Lecturer and later Assistant
Professor at the European University of Cyprus and significant contributions to international
conferences and journals in her field. Her commitment to advancing physiotherapy education is
reflected in her role as a program coordinator and her active participation in multiple international
research presentations and publications.
